A HUNDRED CLEAR-CAST PERFUME BOTTLES SHAPED LIKE A SAMSUNG WASHING MACHINE.

Samsung Perfume Bottles

These perfume bottles were an excellent learning experience. The original model was 3D printed, and I spent a decent amount of time sanding and lacquering the model. We then inserted a square glass bottle into the ABS model. This was then moulded with RTV silicone. For the casts, we would place another square glass into the mould (which could be anchored in place thanks to the nature of the top of the bottle popping into the silicone). We would then fill the mould with PEC eco-resin, which was degassed.

The PEC eco-resin sadly degraded the silicone of the moulds after about five casts. This meant repeated re-mouldings of the master sculpt. The cure time was also significant – two whole days. It meant that multiple moulds had to run multiple casts. The older the mould, the more cloudy the surface of each cast. Happily, the blue tinted cellulose lacquer would bite into the top surface and cure all the clouding issues. This project was a lesson in repetition, and knowing your materials.
