Over the years we have done three batches of Nyx Lipsticks, and one batch of Clinique Lipsticks. The Nyx ones are actually entirely clear perspex. To create the coloured innards, there is a 25mm ply disc with a lathed groove on the top and bottom of a perspex tube, coloured to suit. Those two ply discs are then glued into place, sandwiching the colour tube between them, within the carved grooves.
The tubes are then masked and sprayed matt black in the appropriate places, and then white vinyl graphics are applied. I have had a part in every one of these lipsticks the studio has made so far.
The Clinique lipsticks are MDF boxes, with a polyurethane foam form around a perpex tube forming the silver parts. The coloured parts are formed by a mitred perspex tube, packed out at the mitred end with foam, then a fine fibreglass application. I had a hand in the construction and forming of these lipsticks, as well as the cutting and applying of the vinyl graphics.
