A SHOP FITTING FOR A ONE-DAY POP-UP SHOP IN LONDON. AN ICE CREAM BANK VAULT.

Ice Cream Vault

This project involved fitting out an empty retail space to look like a bank vault. We created a wall of safety deposit boxes, a fake bank vault door (and the wall it is attached to) and a fake ATM machine that would add toppings to people’s free ice cream. The safety deposit boxes were 150 MDF doors, with 5 of those actually openable, with some prizes behind. I spent a long time routing the edges of those doors!

The vault door was three different sized poly discs, all stacked on top of each other, then clad with flexible ply round the edges, and MDF on the faces. the central hub has holes drilled through, which allowed the spokes to pass through. When constructing this, we initially made it in two parts, but after doing some maths I figured out that we could make it in one piece and still fit it through the front doors .I spent most of this job majoring on the vault door, when I wasn’t cutting and applying vinyls, or routing MDF.

The ATM was made out of MDF and timber, with some brushed aluminium buttons and panel trim. The whole rig took about 8 hours and the client was delighted with the effect.
