AN ABSTRACT, GOAT-HEADED MOLECULAR SCULPTURE FOR AN EXHIBITION IN BARCELONA

Goat Sculpture

Another job where I wish I had more progress pictures! The goat head was a polysculpt attached to a spiralling piece of steel tube, which rested on a rolled steel plinth, with a sunken MDF lid. The spiral had over a hundred foamex ‘collars’ which clipped together around the bar. Out of these, there were over 4000 ping pong balls, painted silver and glued onto glass fibre rods. The goat head itself was covered with various sizes of balls also, but this time hot glue was used rather than rods. I was the only maker on this job from start to finsih, and I did a lot of the dirty work. Drilling holes in the collars, gluing ping pong balls to glass fibre rods, painting over 5000 ping pong balls and creating ways to transport it all abroad. As such, I was chosen to go with the project manager to Barcelona, to be part of the team installing the sculpture. This was a fun job and one that I felt I had a good amount of ownership.
